What the state calls a “temporary backlog” is causing large scale delays in getting people their North Carolina tax refunds.At issue is a cash flow problem. The state doesn’t have enough revenue on hand to pay out tax returns, so it is tapping special accounts to pay those refunds.Secretary of Revenue Ken “Six months after its initial rescue of American International Group Inc., the government is no closer to an exit strategy for its entanglement with the troubled insurance company.” I can only imagine how many Americans listened to the news tonight of yet another bailout package for AIG and just shook their heads. Orszag said ..The President’s $3.6 trillion budget proposal may increase energy costs to offset the costs of health care reforms. Former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich blasted the proposal I have a brilliant idea…Why not give every American citizen 1 million dollars from the $838 billion dollars that is being dispersed as part of the 2009 economic stimulus package….and allow us to decide how it is spent. I promise you that the average American will spend it much more wisely than the United As the going gets tough, crime is on the rise even in our little mountain town. It’s sad when local folks are feeling so desperate they’re resorting to criminal acts. Whether it’s shoplifting, or embezzling money from their employer or armed robbery…so many of these crimes are being committed by first time offenders. And My last column talked about my frustration with all the negative headlines in the news media.Even after I wrote my column, I was stewing about it. There are good things happening…but they take a back seat to all the miserable depressing news. The headlines are enough to make you want to crawl back into bed and bury yourself under the blankets.The economic forecast is bleak and miserable…According to the news media, we are heading for something worse than the Great Depression.
