Cousin Paul Black holding newborn Paul Drecksler
Saturday is my youngest child’s 25 th birthday. Paul Eric Drecksler was born on December 5th, 1984. He took his time making his grand debut, as my contractions went on for hours, the Doctor threatening to perform a cesarean if my 4th child didn’t appear soon. No problem…My husband snuck in my screaming toddler, I nursed her to sleep and immediately went into labor. And into the world came our Baby also known by my readers as favorite youngest child!
I could write volumes about Paul because I think he’s an amazing guy. A little flashback…When I found out I was pregnant again while raising 2 young children and an eight month old baby who cried 24/7, I asked G-d to bless me with a good natured, easy going child who slept through the night and didn’t mind being at the end of the line at shower time.
I got exactly what I asked for and more! Paul is the loving little brother/son who is smart, creative, funny and and most importantly (and appreciated) devoted to the family.
I think the best example of what Paul means to me is to share a story. A few month ago, I went to a club to hear a musical group that I wanted to write about. I sat at a table by myself feeling a little sad that my husband was working as usual. I went to the ladies room and when I walked out, a woman says to me, “There’s someone here to see you!” I look across the room and see my son’s smiling face. As tired as he was that night, he didn’t want me to be alone and drove miles to join me.
Paul has made his family and friends his priority his entire life. Twice he traveled halfway across the country to be there for a sibling. He never forgets birthdays and if you need him he’ll be there in a heartbeat!
I feel blessed to be his Mother!
