“My husband is a man of few words. He even recycles his love notes!” Debi Drecksler

After almost thirty four years of marriage, communication with my spouse remains an interesting challenge. My adorable husband is content to smile at me continuously and say very little. My favorite question is…”What are you thinking about?” He’ll look at me with a mischievous grin and say, “You really don’t want to know.”

“What kind of answer is that?” I’ll say, wishing my psychic powers could pick up all his thoughts. He’ll just look at me with those bedroom eyes of his and laugh.

He recently confessed that one of the reasons he married me was because I was a great conversationalist. He said it got him off the hook when we were out with people and talking was mandatory. I quickly learned which topics would get him to jump in and speak his mind. Politics has always been one of his favorite subjects. That and sharing stories from his childhood… like when the birdie pooped on his haircut while he and his big brother were walking home from the barber shop.

I’ve never really been too concerned about how silent he is because I have a stack of love notes that express how he feels about me. I find them on the kitchen counter when he gets up before the crack of dawn for an early morning job.

I’m thinking of compiling all those love notes into a book. It would be something nice to leave the children along with the hundreds of Birthday, Anniversary and Valentine’s Day cards ( inscribed with loving messages) that my husband gave me through the years.

I know they would be delighted to discover this wonderfully romantic and very verbal side of their Dad.
