Everyone at some time in their life will own an insurance policy….Auto, health, homeowners, life…the list goes on and on. More often than not, these policies are written in language that is confusing to the guy on the street unless that person happens to be an Attorney or an insurance agent.
Policy rates and deductibles are a consumer’s first concern with coverage comparison running a close second. Here is where the problem exists…Most consumers do not take the time to read between the lines and really understand each and every aspect of their policy. More often the emphasis is put on what is included then on what is not. In some cases, the what is included is very difficult to comprehend and you may find (when you file a claim) that you don’t have the coverage you thought you had.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to 1) Have an insurance agent that is willing to take the time to explain everything to you and answer any questions you may have 2) read EVERYTHING including any changes that are sent to you after you take out the policy. Coverage changes on insurance policies are very common and you must read and understand how they affect you.
Consumer Alert…If you have purchased a policy and do not receive good customer service after everything is signed and delivered you have every right to voice your concerns. Insurance agents receive compensation when they sign you up and only as long as you keep the policy. If you’re unhappy…speak up!
Insurance policies are supposed to protect the consumer…But it’s up to YOU the consumer to educate yourself enough to know…what to buy.
