An Open Letter To Our Political Leaders:
Can you please help me? I am not a financial institution, or a manufacturer of automobiles or a big national chain of stores. I am just the guy on the street. But I’m hurting really badly right now. My boss just cut my hours from 40 to 32 in an effort to save money but please understand that I really needed those eight hours. Everything I try to buy to take care of my family keeps rising in price…I live in the mountains of North Carolina and the headline in today’s paper was the electric company has been approved for a 10% rate hike. I can barely afford my electricity bill now…I’ve lowered my thermostat and told my wife to put extra layers on the kids. She’s concerned because the children have grown so much since last year and their winter jackets and boots are too small. We went shopping today for necessities and we are in sticker shock…Food and toiletries have skyrocketed. All those articles about childhood obesity don’t do me any good if I can’t afford to feed my children healthfully. Where do you expect me to cut corners? I’m really trying to make ends meet. I may be just the little guy but I need your help as much if not more than the Big Guys.
Please don’t forget me…
This is a composite of several stories I heard this week from middle class folks who are struggling to make ends meet.
