One of the concerns I’ve heard over and over again from job seekers is “What if they think I’m overqualified?” The advice they’ve gotten has mostly been tone yourself down or they will think you’re after their job.
Though the advice might seem well meaning, I disagree completely.
I believe that self confidence is one of the most appealing qualities one can exude. The thought of toning down one’s education or talents to pacify a potential employer seems silly. If the employer is intimidated by who you are… all facets of you… then how could it possibly be a good working environment?
Everyone deserves respect….Why put yourself in a situation where you are more worried about outshining your superiors than you are about being productive.
My suggestion…Be true to yourself!
