“What I wanted most for my daughter was that she be able to soar confidently in her own sky, whatever that may be.”
Helen Claes
Today is my youngest daughter’s 27th birthday. Wasn’t it just yesterday that she was a little girl? In my mind, the years flew by like a blink of an eye.
July 12,1983
A nurse places a bundle in my arms and I look into the eyes of a baby who (though I just gave birth to her minutes before) has already connected with me…I know that this happened long before she came into the physical world. Later that day, another nurse brings my daughter into my hospital room and says, “We can’t calm your baby down in the nursery, so we are making an exception and allowing you to keep her by your bed. Call us if you need anything!” I swear I see a smile on my newborn daughter’s face.
Heidi stays connected to my hip through the first 16 months of her life. When her brother, Paul, is born she releases her hold on me and directs all her attention toward the new love of her life…her “baby Boo”. Dolls and stuffed animals get tossed aside.. She now had this real living and breathing little person to play with. Like a second Mother, she nurtures and loves him, never leaving his side. From then on, it is always Heidi and Paul.
It’s funny how your mind plays back these special moments as you watch your babies grow up and make their way in the world.
Each year on their birthday, I like to share one of these memories with them…a present they can enjoy many times in the years to come.
Happy 27th Birthday, across the miles, to our precious daughter… Heidi Lynn Drecksler.
We wish you a healthy, happy and joyful year! May all your dreams come true!
Much love,
Mother and Dad
