Asheville has a new comedy club called The Funny Business Comedy Club and to this aspiring comic that’s music to my ears. I’ve had the fun of seeing three week’s worth of comedy shows and I can’t wait to go back for more!
The club, located in the basement level of the well known S&W Building, is spacious and classy. Servers are very attentive to your needs and go out of their way to accommodate their guests. I was pleased to find the bathrooms very clean and nicely decorated, another indication that a lot of care has been put into providing a top notch venue.
The service is exceptional! Co-owner Charlie Gerencer and his friendly staff (which includes his lovely wife Laurel) make you feel welcome from the moment you enter the club. They are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the show.
Charlie Gerencer has an extensive background in comedy including being involved in the creation of the well known show, Last Comic Standing and many other comedy based projects. Charlie teamed with Gregg Brown for the Laugh Your Asheville Off Series, before opening his latest venture with partners, John and Eric Yoder, of The Funny Business Agency. I had the pleasure of meeting Eric at the show I attended this past weekend. Another really nice guy!
The second show I attended featured a comic named Alex Ortiz, a well known comedian who brought down the house with his comedy and impersonations. Ortiz has been featured on Comedy Central, BET, Live at Gotham, “Whose Got Laughs” and the “Bad Boys of Comedy”.
Another Bonus! The opening acts and the MC’s comedic talents have been top notch, making the shows even more enjoyable.
I loved watching guests walk out with huge smiles on their faces. What a terrific way to spend an evening!
