I love being in the chocolate business and I adore writing human interest and consumer columns but I believe my calling in life has always been working with children. My first job was as a Mother’s helper to my own Mother who 4 years after I was born had 3 babies in 3 1/2 years. The years that followed were some of the happiest years of my life.
As a teenager, I was in big demand as a babysitter once parents found out about my hands on experience. At 15, I talked my way into a job as a drama coach at a day camp. I wrote all my own plays and directed and produced them.
In college, I helped meet expenses by being a Nanny to a family with 3 children. The son had Down Syndrome and I learned more about working with children with special needs than I could have learned in any text book.
My professional experience included working as a teacher and as a recreation director and I loved every minute of it…But my greatest and most rewarding experience in the field of child care came from raising 4 children….I derived an enormous amount of joy and happiness from watching my children grow up and become the bright, creative adults they are today. I just wish I could have slowed time down…The years went by so quickly.
And now..I have made this decision to once again work with children… even if it’s just for a few hours a week. I’m searching for something that inspires and fulfills me.
I can’t wait to see where this journey leads…..I know my heart will show me the way.
