With the holidays right around the corner, I’ve been listening to people’s concerns about not having enough money to buy presents for everyone on their gift list.
I have always felt that the emphasis should be more on the spirit of giving than on the gift itself. Some of the most thoughtful and meaningful gifts I have received through the years have been created by the giver…A beautiful poem, an original piece of artwork, cookies made with love…The list goes on and on.
Even in my chocolate business, I have always stressed to my clients that it’s not how much you spend on a gift but the generous act of giving that is important. No gift should ever be considered too small.
With the economy going through some tough times, perhaps it makes sense to reevaluate priorities and figure out what’s really important in life. I think it’s loving relationships not lack of things that folks will look back and remember.
