I recently wrote a column about my adorable songwriter daughter, Heidi, encouraging me to eat healthier. So much has happened since then and according to my 3rd born child, it’s all good.
First of all, I now find myself reading the labels on every food and beverage to see if it contains high fructose corn syrup. After Heidi described what it does to your insides, I couldn’t pretend like I didn’t know the dangers. But folks…This takes work!! I held up traffic in a grocery store aisle the other night attempting to read every label of every BBQ sauce on the shelves. I had NO idea it was added to so many products. (It helps to carry a magnifying glass to see the fine print of these ingredient labels. Obviously, some companies would rather you not know it’s in their products.)
I’m not going to pretend like this has been smooth sailing. I’ve got an extra refrigerator in the garage where I stash all my HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) products, like the green tea that I thought was good for me. Darn…I love that tea!! Like a closet drinker, I make excuses to go straighten up the garage 3-4 times a day so I can take a few sips.
All kidding aside, I’m trying to be really good about this so that I can stay healthy and stick around long enough to watch my daughter get married and have a daughter… who will hopefully hound her to take care of herself.
Isn’t that what love is all about?
