When applying for a job , there is a fine line between tooting your own horn and bragging. I don’t believe it is necessary to tone yourself down when applying for a job out of fear of intimidating the interviewer. Be True To Yourself But I do think there’s a way to make a lasting impression without displaying ostentatious behavior.
Obviously, you can’t list every single accomplishment on a resume but the interview allows you an opportunity to elaborate on your strengths. Talk about them in relation to the position you are applying for. For example…The position includes attending a lot of meetings where you will be expected to encourage others to join the organization you will be representing. You are excited because have an extensive background in public speaking. This would be the appropriate time to share how you represented your college in national debate tournaments 4 years in a row. And if you came back with a trophy or two…. you can throw that in with a little bit of humble pie.
The important thing to remember is that timing is everything . If you are a good listener, you will quickly figure out exactly how to effectively toot your own horn !
